About the Berimbau
A single-stringed bow instrument from Brazil. Used in capoeira martial arts. The gourd resonator amplifies the string. A coin or stone presses against the string for pitch changes. A caxixi shaker provides rhythmic accompaniment. Over 200 years of Afro-Brazilian tradition. The instrument dictates the speed and style of the capoeira game.
