About the Darbuka
A goblet-shaped hand drum from the Middle East. Also called doumbek or tabla. Made of ceramic or metal with a fish or synthetic skin head. Three main sounds: doum, tek, and ka. Essential in Arabic music for over 1,000 years. The split-finger technique allows rapid playing.
