About the Flute
The oldest known musical instrument is a bone flute from 40,000 years ago found in Germany. The modern silver flute was developed by Theobald Boehm in 1847. Over 15 feet of tubing when uncoiled. The piccolo plays one octave higher. Alto and bass flutes extend the range lower.
