Also known as the thumb piano or mbira. Metal tines attached to a wooden board. Each tine produces a different note. Over 1,000 years of African history. The modern kalimba was popularized by Hugh Tracey in the 1950s. Ethnomusicologists consider it one of the most important African instruments.
