About the Mbira
The mbira dzavadzimu of the Shona people. 22 to 28 metal tines attached to a hardwood board. Played inside a large calabash resonator called a deze. Over 1,000 years of Shona tradition. Used in spirit possession ceremonies. The cascading patterns create a hypnotic effect.
