About the Shekere
A gourd covered in a net of beads or shells. Shaken or struck for different sounds. Over 600 years of African tradition. The beaded net creates a rasping sound when twisted. Used in Yoruba and Afro-Cuban music. The size varies from small to over 2 feet in diameter.
